COVID-19 Solidarity Program

The TeamWorks Institute developed and managed two solidarity funds in partnership with cleaning cooperatives -- one in Silicon Valley and the other in Boston.   These partnership played critical roles in helping these co-ops to not only survive but actually  develop new capacities during the first year of the crisis.

>>The Solidarity Development Fund provided a CRITICAL LIFELINE for the TeamWorks Cleaning co-op during its full suspension of operations (March 17 - June 8, 2020), and then continued to help fill the gap of lost revenue up until June 30, 2021 when the Fund was closed because it was no longer needed.

>>The Boston Cleaning Co-op Fund was a similar fund that helped that allowed that co-op weather the crisis successfully.
Families sustained:  During the most disruptive phase of the pandemic in 2020, donations and grants managed by the TeamWorks Institute and passed through (100%) to two worker-owned cooperatives played a critical role in sustaining 25 full-time jobs -- and those members' families.  We are grateful to the many donors that made this possible.

Members are proud that they did not laid off any members and maintained their health insurance and other benefits.  The combination of co-op values, an underlying foundation of existing policies and programs developed over many years at the co-ops, and the partnership of clients and other donors has made it possible to weather the storm.

Education & Co-op Development

The intensive online education program implemented by the co-op during the full quarantine in the spring was a huge success.  After receiving  intensive coaching and training for several months, members are now self-managing an ongoing program of online education, committee projects, and co-op governance.  The silver lining of the crisis is a higher level of member engagement and learning that emerged during this challenging period.
